Retired Practitioners: Honoring their Legacy

Dr. Carol Novak, O.D. (Retired)

Dr. Carol NovakDr. Novak earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Dayton. She went on to receive her Optometry degree from Ohio State University.

Dr. Novak participates with the Vision USA program, as well as the Lions Club, to provide eye care to people in need. She also serves as a Eucharistic Minister and sacristan at her parish. She has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce and has been an active member for many years. Dr. Novak also belongs to the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association.

She is a RealEyes presenter in the schools and has provided school vision screenings. In the 2013-2014 school year, Dr. Novak was the leading RealEyes presenter in the whole state of Ohio. In 2020, she reached the elite status of educating over 10,000 students.

We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication of Dr. Sterna and Dr. Novak and are proud to carry on their legacy of compassionate care and community service.

Dr. David J. Sterna, O.D. (Retired)

Dr. David SternaDr. Sterna began practicing optometry in 1985. His practice philosophy has always been to place the needs and care of his patients as his top priority. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981 from the College of Wooster with a major in chemistry and a minor in Latin American studies. He also studied abroad in Bogota, Colombia. Dr. Sterna then went on to obtain his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Ohio State University in 1985. He is bilingual and happy to serve the Hispanic population healthcare needs.

He was born and raised in Amherst and integrates the most up-to-date technology with traditional patient care to guarantee that his patients always receive the highest quality eye care available. In August 2011, he was granted Diplomate status by the American Board of Optometry, becoming one of the first optometrists in the United States to be awarded this distinction.

Dr. Sterna has always maintained an active role in international relations as well. In 2015 Dr. Sterna and his wife Dianna provided humanitarian medical relief services to the underprivileged in Costa Rica with fellow Christians of Trinity Free Evangelical Church and have hosted numerous exchange students from around the world.

When not practicing optometry, Dr. Sterna enjoys gardening, photography, and international travel. He lives in Amherst with his wife, Dianna. They have two sons and a daughter. Completing their family are five grandchildren and two adorable dogs.
